Ira Steven Behr on "Rules of Acquisition":
"There's comedy and there's
comedy. Comedy should have truth in it, too. The tone was off in places.
[Some parts of the episode] became a bedroom farce and that's not how
I'd envisioned it." |

Ira Steven Behr on the creation of Tongo:
"My parents live in Las Vegas and
my father's a gambler. This was a chance to invent a game that I thought
my father would play under the right circumstances. I can't tell you the
rules, butt I'm sure someone will come up with them one day." |

|
Ira Steven Behr on the creation of the Dominion:
"They did three years of
[exploring unexplored space] on the original series and seven years on
TNG. We needed to define that space. Villains are cool. It's true I've
done a lot of stuff with the Ferengi, but they're not really villains. I
had this fear that my Star Trek tombstone would read, 'He really made
the Ferengi work.' And there should be more to a man's life than that.'" |

|
|
Armin Shimerman on "Rules of Acquisition":
"What I found really interesting
about the episode was that it was the Ferengi who made the first contact
with the major power in the Gamma Quadrant. It was the Ferengi who
discovered the Dominion, which I think is wonderful. For all of
Starfleet's intelligence and technology, it was trading and
merchandising that made the Dominion apparent to everyone!" |

Director David Livingston on the Pakleds on the
Promenade:
"I Asked for them! [laughs] We
were doing a comedy and they're the funniest, goofiest-looking guys. I
love the Pakleds!" |
