O'Brien, Bashir and Jake Sisko do not appear in this episode.

Klach D'Kel Brakt, referred to in this episode, is later revealed in an Enterprise episode, "The Augments" to be the Klingon name for the "Briar Patch" seen in Star Trek: Insurrection.

Baakonite is a composite metal alloy used in the construction of typical bat'leths.

Bahgol is a Klingon tea-like beverage, best served warm. Curzon Dax and Kang sat together over a glass of warm bahgol at the Korvat colony when the Federation and the Klingon Empire were still enemies.

Breshtanti ale is an intoxicating ale of a clear nature. It was strongly favored by Kor, who often drank it to excess.

The Klingon term for "ice man" is d'akturak. Federation Ambassador Curzon Dax gave this nickname to Koloth at the Korvat colony negotiations, referring to Koloth's "icy" demeanor at those negotiations.

A Dahar Master is a Klingon warrior who has reached a legendary status among his peers and subordinates.

Dax, son of Kang, was the namesake and godson of Curzon Dax, born some time in the late 2280s. Curzon felt it an incredible honor to be nominated as the godfather of a Klingon child, at a time when relations between the Klingon Empire and the Federation were still quite hostile.

Dayos IV is an inhabited planet located near the Klingon and Federation sphere of influence. In 2363, it was the home of a former wife to the Albino when she was discovered by Kang. Starfleet Intelligence uses this planet in creating a background for O'Brien's alias Connelly when he goes undercover in the Orion Syndicate in 2374 ("Honor Among Theives".)

Galdonterre is a planet, where the Albino hid after he exacted his revenge against Kang, Kor, and Koloth. The three Klingon warriors and Curzon Dax, who had together sworn a blood oath to kill the Albino, nearly caught him on Galdonterre. However, the Albino had somehow intercepted their subspace communications and escaped before their arrival.

The Albino deployed a gravitic mine at the threshold to his compound on Secarus IV in an attempt to destroy the allies of Kang who had come there to confront him.

Korvat colony was the site of negotiations between the Federation and the Klingon Empire in 2289 whose aim was an end to the decades-old cold war between the two. The Federation was represented in the negotiations by Curzon Dax while the Klingons were represented by Kang, along with Koloth.

Kuttars are a bayonet-like blade weapon that can be affixed to the end of energy rifles for hand-to-hand combat.

The Markalians are a humanoid species common to the Alpha Quadrant. The Albino employed an unnamed Markalian as head guard of his fortress on planet Secarus IV.

A QiVon is a symmetrical organ in the Klingon anatomy. The left QiVon of Dahar Master Kor would ache every time his ship hit warp eight.

Riddinite is a strong brick-like material used to construct buildings and walls. The Albino's fortified compound on Secarus IV was constructed from riddinite.

The Secarus system is a remote star system, where the Albino hid until 2370.

Bombardment with tetryons can render directed-energy weapons inoperative. Jadzia Dax utilized tetryons to disable the weapons of The Albino's troops on Secarus IV.
