Quark has been on the station longer than Odo, and he sold food to the Bajorans during the occupation.

After this episode it appears that Cardassia considers Garak to be an exile, although it is not clear to what extent his exile is self-inflicted.

Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #223 is mentioned, however Quark is cut off before he can recite it.

This is the first episode to refer to the Cardassian dissident movement. It is also the first episode to use the term Cardassian Central Command.

The Cardassian Communications Service (also known as the Cardassian Information Service) is an agency that controls and operates major communication systems in the Cardassian Union. Natima Lang worked for the service while she was living on Terok Nor in 2363.

The Cardassian dissident movement was a resistance movement formed to resist and oppose the Cardassian Central Command. Professor Natima Lang was a known member of the movement in 2370.

Cardassian shuttles were small warp-capable craft utilized by the Cardassian Union during the 24th century. These vessels were much smaller than Cardassian patrol cruisers and could typically carry 3 to 5 occupants.

The Mordian butterfly is a type of insect native to Rhymus Major. In a holoprogram based on Rhymus Major, a Mordian butterfly landed on Natima Lang's nose and became stuck.

Rhymus Major is a planet located in a binary star system. Quark's first holosuite-program was set on this planet, including a picnic, waterfalls, flitterbird wings and Mordian butterflies.

Samarian sunsets were a favored drink of Cardassian professor Natima Lang, who stopped drinking them after she and Quark had a falling-out, since they reminded her of him.

After Julian Bashir told Elim Garak "before you can be loyal to another, you must be loyal to yourself" in 2370, the Cardassian attributed the quote to Sarek, but it was actually Bashir's own.

The Trelonians are a species. Sometime prior to 2370, the Trelonian General Yiri had his brother executed because he allegedly was a traitor to the Trelonian government, though according to Doctor Bashir the evidence was only circumstanial.

Personal cloaking devices are illegal on Bajor. Quark owns one.

Chief O'Brien has lent I, the Jury by Mickey Spillane to Odo.
