After Varani's performance, the Bajorans in the bar (including Kira) clap as humans do. In earlier and later episodes, they clap with their palm to the back of their hand.

This episode marks the second reference to the Dominion.

Bolka was a Minister in the Bajoran Chamber of Ministers in the 24th century. Kira Nerys contacted him regarding Varani's proposal to rebuild the Jalanda Forum. He was resistant to the idea.

Draylon II was a class M planet, uninhabited and ripe for colonization. It had a stable orbit, temperate climate, and very low surface radiation. It is near Sefalla Prime. 3 million Skrreea settled on Draylon II because they were not allowed to settle on Bajor.

Entomology is the study of insects. However, it is usually expanded to include the study of arachnids. Jake Sisko tutored Mardah in entomology in 2370. Nog thought that she was studying "bugs" to learn how to be a chef.

Jake Sisko recommends icoberry torte to Tumek.

Interceptor One was a Bajoran interceptor in service during the 2370s. General Hazar ordered Interceptor One to stop a Skrreean ship from landing on Bajor.

The Jalanda Forum was a prestigious Bajoran music hall located in Jalanda City. The Forum was destroyed during the Cardassian Occupation. Kira Nerys attempted to sway the Provisional Government to rebuild the Forum, on behalf of one of its former musicians, Varani.

Skrreean language has a very unique syntax and grammatical structure, which caused the universal translator to struggle with it initially before it could establish a translation matrix.

Kentanna was the mythical land that awaited the Skrreean people on the other side of "the eye of the universe". They believed it would provide them with salvation when they fled the T-Rogorans, who had occupied the Skrreean homeworld, following a Dominion invasion.

Maaza stalks are a food, a celery-like vegetable. Commander Benjamin Sisko ordered seven maaza stalks from a replicator for Skrreea leader Haneek and her family.

The Northwest Peninsula was an uninhabited region of Bajor which had fertile soil. It would have been an ideal place to farm prior to the Occupation of Bajor by the Cardassian Union. Toxins plagued the soil after the Cardassian withdrawal, and it was on this basis that the Bajoran Provisional Government denied the Skrreeans' request to immigrate to the peninsula.

Reegrunions are a humanoid species. Plix Tixiplik was a Reegrunion who was among those shown on the wanted posters in Constable Odo's security office aboard Deep Space 9. Nog thought the name was odd.

Trilar Peninsula was an area of Bajor, the irrigation system of which the Chamber of Ministers, particularly Minister Rozahn, once argued about for over two days.
