Stephen Macht (Krim) played General Benedict Arnold in the mini-series George Washington. He was also a candidate for the role of Capt. Picard on The Next Generation.

Admiral Chekote in this episode is of no relation to Cmdr. Chakotay of Voyager. Bruce Gray would later reprise his role in the Next Generation episode "Gambit, Part I" and would later play Surak in the Enterprise episode "Awakening".

As part two of the first three-part episode in Star Trek history, the narrator (Majel Barrett) says "...and now the continuation" after the recap instead of her usual "and now the conclusion" (since it is not in fact the conclusion).

As Li Nalas talks to Dax in Ops, you can see a gold watch on his left wrist.

The rescue team is taken down the Bajor in a Federation runabout, capable of beaming up only two people at once, as established in a pervious episode. Yet when the team finds Major Kira, Sisko calls to Chief O'Brien to beam them up. All five of them are promptly energized at the same time.

Both Nana Visitor and Rick Berman were concerned with how much bare flesh there would be showing in the Orb experience scenes.

The scenes in the temple gardens were shot in Griffith Park's Fern Dell section.
