TREKCORE > DEEP SPACE NINE > SHIPS & STATIONS > Deep Space Nine / Terok Nor
Abandoned by the Cardassians during their withdrawal from the Bajoran system in 2369, Deep Space Nine is placed under Starfleet administration by the Bajoran Provisional Government. Under the direct control of then-Commander Benjamin Sisko it is moved to the Denorios Belt, from its former position in orbit around Bajor, following the discovery of a stable wormhole which provides an important commercial link with the Gamma Quadrant. On a given day there might be anywhere from 10 to 300 visitors, as ships come through carrying foreigners, scientists, merchants, and spies. Most of the visitors stay on their ships, but there are also special quarters for guests on the station itself. The habitat ring, which encircles the central core of the station, is primarily filled with quarters and other living facilities for personnel. Three runabout pads are also found on this ring. The Promenade offers opportunities for gambling and smuggling in its bars, although the more honest visitor may choose to relax in the holosuites upstairs. Alongside the traditional ships' stores are a Bajoran Temple and a kiosk serving live food. Source: The
