HISTORY & USE

The Jem'Hadar Attack Cruiser, also commonly known as a fighter or warship, is the frontline battle craft in the Dominion's on-going campaign to subjugate all life in the Alpha Quadrant. The Attack Cruiser operates in many roles, including covert patrol, but its primary function is as a strike fighter, bombarding planet-side targets from orbit or the upper atmosphere, or engaging enemy starships in close formation.

DESIGN & CAPABILITIES

The vessels use a matter-antimatter reactor as the core power source for their faster-than-light warp drive, and an impulse power system for sublight travel. They also have a secondary ion propulsion system, an advanced technology that uses magnetic fields to propel exhaust gases and provide thrust. Sensor scans have shown that these ships are capable of achieving and maintaining a sustained velocity of Warp 9.6. In addition, a ventral impeller device is fitted to the underside of the craft, allowing it to make vertical take-offs and landings on planetary surfaces.

Compared to many Federation vessels, the Attack Cruiser is quite small; at just over 68 meters, with a wingspan of 70 meters, and mass of just 2450 metric tons, it is less than half the size of a Defiant-class starship. The craft appear capable of operating long distances from their home base, but squadrons of Attack Cruisers are also launched from the larger Jem'Hadar Battle Cruisers.

WEAPONS & DEFENSES

The Attack Ship is armed with three phased polaron beam weapons, mounted in a fixed forward emitter array in the stubby, beak-like structure at the front of the craft. These weapons are highly advanced and extremely lethal; they are capable of penetrating most Federation shields, despite modifications and frequency modulation. Is is also possible that they carry ship-to-surface weapons, such as the ultritium concussion shells commonly used as artillery by Jem'Hadar ground forces. Attack Cruiser transporter systems can also be operated in an offensive capability: they are able to penetrate defensive shields in order to beam boarding parties directly onto enemy ships. Defensive systems include a powerful cloaking device, and an advanced deflector shield that can prevent an enemy vessel from locking on a tractor beam.

Craft of this size usually operate in isolation, or in groups of two or three, depending on the level of threat from the enemy. Most often, activities such as strike missions or border patrols are undertaken in a three-ship formation. The vessels move under cover of cloak until they emerge to attack their targets, with characteristic Jem'Hadar rapidity and violence.
