Bajoran Transport Vessels

TREKCORE > DEEP SPACE NINE > SHIPS & STATIONS > Bajoran Transport Vessels

The Bajorans have been a spacefaring race for centuries. In addition to the ancient and beautiful solar sailing ships, and the sturdy fighter vessels that served them so well during their struggle against the Cardassians, the race makes good use of a large fleet of Bajoran Transport Vessels. These are equipped for lengthy interplanetary travel, as well as for shorter journeys.

DETAILS

Bajoran Transport Vessels have been in service for many years, and can often be found docked at the upper pylons and outer docking ring of Deep Space Nine, due to the station's proximity to Bajor, and the fact that many nationals live and serve aboard it. Such ships are often used to make short journeys from the surface of Bajor to the space station, but they are also equipped for longer journeys.

There are slight variations between individual ships of this class, but all share a similar overall structure and design. The main hull is wedge-shaped, with a stubby wing on each side, and the decks are layered, each one smaller than the one below. The rear of the vessel features three engine exhaust ports as well as three red lights emanating from the horizontal ports; the lights are evident even when the vessel is docked.

INTERIOR

As their name suggests, these ships have a high passenger capacity; travellers can be accommodated in large berths, which are either double or single occupancy. These rooms are relatively spartan; those sleeping two passengers do so in bunk beds against the wall furthest from the entry door. Each room's lighting system is voice-activated, darkening automatically when vacated.

Many of the windowless rooms contains a computer display which speaks with a male voice, a small table with two chairs, and a small work desk. A matter reclamation unit is situated along the far wall; this is part of the replicator system, that feeds and clothes the passengers and crew.

Passengers can use the vessel's subspace teleconferencing equipment to stay abreast of current affairs while travelling. Similar to the cruise ships of Earth, the Bajoran Transport Vessel also provides areas of entertainment for its passengers. There are at least three holosuites, which can offer welcome distractions during the sometimes lengthy voyages.
