Bajoran Fighter / Impulse Ship

TREKCORE > DEEP SPACE NINE > SHIPS & STATIONS > Bajoran Fighter / Impulse Ship

HISTORY & DESIGN

Bajor is an ancient world of artisans and architects; a civilization of builders, not warriors. The fact that their Bajoran fighters managed to win any battles at all against the Cardassian occupation forces is more a credit to the skill and ingenuity of the Bajoran resistance pilots who flew them than to the expertise of the engineers who built them. Bajoran Fighters are a prime example of necessity being the mother of invention.

Built in haste during the years of the Cardassian occupation, the ships often use designs that are probably borrowed from other races, and are constructed with whatever materials can be begged, borrowed or stolen. The Bajorans who build these vessels do their best, but their fighters are a long way from meeting minimum Starfleet standards, or even Cardassian ones. But they work, most of the time, and that is all that can be asked of these ships.

WEAPONS & DEFENSES

As the name suggests, Bajoran Fighters are combat ships, equipped with short-range phasers as their primary weapons. Lacking warp and, often, even normal impulse drives, these fighters rely on stealth and ambush to be the most effective. Whenever possible, the fighters seek to lure their targets within planetary atmospheres where the playing field is almost level.

After the Cardassian conflict is settled by treaty, most of the Fighters are put into mothballs. Some are still secreted on Bajor's moons, but others have been reactivated for a new purpose.
