Episode Behind the Scenes

TREKCORE > DS9 > EPISODES > Q-LESS > Behind the Scenes

Hannah Louise Shearer's original story featured Vash without Q; Q was added by Robert Hewitt Wolfe.

Major Kira refers to tritium as being "highly toxic". Tritium is just an isotope of hydrogen, just as combustible, but non-radioactive and no more toxic than ordinary hydrogen.

Cirroc Lofton (Jake Sisko) does not appear in this episode.

This is the last time we see Vash in any Star Trek series.

This episode is Q's only appearance on Deep Space Nine.

The boxing scene, in which Q is surprised that Sisko has hit him, is a metaphor for the fledgling series' attempts to differentiate itself from TNG. It is literally meant to imply that the new series "packs a punch" although it would come to have greater meaning as DS9 explored darker ideas not touched upon by TNG.
